International Day of Zero Waste Zero Waste Guide
Introducing the Youth 4 Zero Waste Guide
On the occasion of the International Day of Zero Waste, facilitated jointly by UNEP and UN-Habitat, we’re proud to share the SLK's Youth 4 Zero Waste Guide — a youth-led initiative aimed at tackling one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time.
This global day reminds us of the urgent need to address the waste pollution crisis, which threatens human health, drives biodiversity loss, accelerates climate change, and costs the global economy hundreds of billions of dollars each year. With the world generating over 2 billion tonnes of municipal solid waste annually — and projections showing a sharp increase to 3.8 billion tonnes by 2050 — it’s clear that action is needed now.
Our guide was co-created with young changemakers from Mitrovica and Prizren through the Youth 4 Zero Waste project. It focuses on practical, everyday solutions for reducing plastic, food, and glass waste — all grounded in the 6Rs of Zero Waste and the principles of a circular economy.
Let this guide inspire you to be part of the solution — to refuse, reduce, reuse, and reimagine a waste-free future.
